bouldering area was overcrowded, with unsupervised children running around. team coaches were socializing rather than supervising. lots of newer climbers who lacked gym etiquette. can’t blame them when no instructional video was included in the waiver. many easier climbs traversed sideways and intersected dynamic climbs, making for a frustrating and dangerous experience. i agree with adam’s comment that the setting was repetitive and uninspired. for example, the purple circuit all felt on the upper end of the grade range, wi... read more

Pros: - the beast / steep overhang is an epic, unique feature - pretty good mixture of routes, styles, and amazing variety of angles; routesetters did a great job - vibes & people: from the outside at least, seemed like a chill, inclusive community - very clean gym with new holds and a nice design Cons: - steep membership rates compared to comparable gyms in area (only bouldering) - very soft grades (would be nice to add another system board, spray wall, or set harder)

Great bouldering spot in DC proper! Staff members are super friendly, relatively clean facilities, and routes are reset very regularly. Variety of community events hosted throughout the month, which makes this place a wonderful third space. Do note that this gym is on the smaller side; for example, the Seattle Poplar location is easily 3x the size. However, I’m happy to call DCBP my home gym!
