About this business

Located at 2764 feet (842.47 meters) in the small ranching town of Waimea, this boutique brewery holds the distinction of being the highest brewery in Hawaii. Locals know this place as an extension to the ever-popular Tako Taco Mexican café. Located in the very heart of Waimea, the brewery was a long time in the making. The vats are anchored to the rear of the restaurant in an old barn with a variety of brews that are too long to list. There is live music three times a week, and that ever-popular Tako Taco menu of sal... read more

Great beer, pleasant environment and good fries. A little closer to the road, but we'll worth the drive up from Kona.

Good enough to drive all the way from Puna just to hang out there for a burger and couple beers.

Burger that was ordered medium-rare came both medium & rare depending on the bite. Beer - not so good. Porter and stout pretty much the same beer. Unbalanced with a skunk of contamination. Tasted not at all as described in menu or as they should. When I asked for the stout I received a glass of redness and when I asked the server said it was the red stout and "oh did you want the....." What the hell is a red stout? Hard to belive the former was an "award winner". Atmosphere and service meh.

Not only is the beer great, but the food is too...and the folks are friendly. We stopped there for lunch just because it was time to eat, we were hungry, and had no notion about the place or its brews beforehand. I'm sorry that I don't live here just for the Big Island Brewhaus.

I'm here on vacation with my family from California. I had a flight of beers which was all delicious but my favorite was the Golden Sabbath because of its strong flavor. I had the Grilled Big Island Steak which was nice and savory. I love me some onions and they piled it on. In addition to the awesome beer and delicious food, I was able to enjoy the tuesday night open mic. The crowd was wonderful! I think it's awesome for a restaurant to support local talent. I came to Hawaii with two things in mind, visit a local brewery an... read more
