Dr. Hans Bengsten put me on Percocet which is a much stronger narcotic than my usual med. & didn't help my Fybromyalgia pain, It made me very sick and caused mood alteration which he blamed on me not the med. I wanted off it! He refused to return me to the meds that had worked great for 8 yrs. He wanted to detox me with the drug suboxone & no treatment for the incapacitating pain. I was referred to Dr. Malone, but for some reason the staff made my appt w/ Dr. Bengston. I was blown away by his attitude & should have just walked out, but I was so caught off guard by where he was going with this - insuating that I had an addiction to hydrocodone - despite the 3 CT scans/reports I brought in or my 4 hospital stays in 1yr. My nephrologist referred me to a doctor at Advanced Pain Care in Austin after I brought up my concern that I was being prescribed hydrocodone too often, especially since the most recent time that I passed a kidney stone & was able to stop taking it for pain, I had some uncomfortable withdrawl symptoms. I made appointment with David Malone, M.D. but had to see this guy instead, and was not allowed to see Dr. Malone, whose name was on the referral. He said he would do a series of shots when I came in for the procedure, three, placed between the four affected discs in my neck. He did only one shot in the least painful of the four. I made a follow up to ask why and was sluffed off again on another doctor (female) that had no clue what had transpired to date or why. I've been going to Advanced Pain Care for 3 years and have really been disappointed. I should have changed to another doctor a long time ago. You will wait for several hours to be seen so get an early morning appt. The staff is very rude and always mess up your appt times. I've only seen a doctor 3 times in 3 years, you always see PA's. Some can be helpful but most aren't. They never recommend any procedures that THEY can't perform.
