Great place I enjoyed it
I've taken my old bike (Trek 4300), my wife's bike, and my latest bike (Specialized Carve) for basic repairs or tuneups. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Bike is in and out in the stated time frame. Cost is very reasonable. I drive farther from my house than other shops just to go here.
Neighborhood bike shop. Bear Bikes is a small bike shop with a small staff, so quick service is sometimes unavailable. However, if they have the time they are patient and accommodating with novices. They have a great selection of beach cruisers from Electra and Felt, among others. I purchased a bike from them in 2006 and was very pleased with the transaction.
Bear Bikes Evaluation It's not the best place to take your bike in for repair. I am still looking for a place on the Monterey Peninsula that can true my rear spokes correctly, as Bear Bikes was unable to do so. Repair estimates are reasonable, but quality of work fair.
Great Service I've been going to Bear Bikes for my cycling needs since moving to Salinas 5 years ago. I have been completely satisfied and then some with the service i receive there. I would highly recommend them if your just looking and need some advice or if you're a gear head looking to fine tune your rig for optimal performance.
Not for Beginners My experience was satisfactory at the Bear Bikes. The staff present during the visit were just okay. I had asked several questions, that for some, could not be answered. Also, the prices of the bikes are fairly high. I was a little disappointed in their customer service.
Bike gurus A friend of mine wanted to get me a bike for my Birthday, but instead of going to the local Sportsmart, we dropped by Bear Bikes. Although I know little about bikes, the staff were extremely helpful in directing my friend on what bikes were available and even had the option to custom modding the bikes. The prices were reasonable, but the customer service was incredible. We felt no pressure to commit on anything, but we did buy something in the end.
