About this business

Basso56, is a swank Italian eatery popular with New Yorkers - and for good reason. The restaurant hand-picks traditional Italian spices and flavors and cooks them to perfection. Set the ball rolling with the grilled eggplant or calamari, and follow it up with some of their excellent handmade ravioli. Finish off with one of the richly mouthwatering desserts. There is a good wine list and prices are reasonable - the polite, friendly service also comes highly recommended.

Exellent place for lunch and dinner – I have tryed Basso56 twice already. Beeing close to work I stoped by for lunch one day and I was truly amazed: for $16 pris fix you get a two course of a generous meal plus coffee and soda. I think the best deal in the area! ( try especially the fish of the day or the ravioli of the day, and you will be surprised). Than I decided to try the place again for dinner now, and it was a real wonderful experience. The place is very clean and cozy. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable; ... read more

Bright, clean central Italian cooking sails into midtown. – The Scene This midtown spin-off of the East Village's popular Basso Est streamlines its look for crowds of theatergoers and business diners. Clean lines in the long rectangular space lead all the way to the open kitchen in the back, a touch that mirrors the staff's straight-shooting warmth. A gleaming white color scheme keeps the sub-street level room from feeling dim, while a large wood wine rack and beige wall accents provide terrestrial accents. The Food The move... read more

Great food & atmosphere – If you are looking for good Italian food this is a sure bet. Basso 56 distinguishes itself, however, from the myrid of Italian restaurants in town (not to mention the tourist trap, Patsy's 100 ft away) by creating a friendly and unpretentious environment. The restaurant is undergroud but the light colored walls and open kitchen allows for an open feel. The menu offers more than traditional fair with options such as duck in a balsamic reduction with figs. Only drawback is the concrete interior does n... read more

exellent food, beautilul decor – I decided to try BASSO56 after a beiing a fanatic of their downtown location and I was trully amaized again. Exellent food, beautiful decor and great service. The menu has similarities to the original Basso Est, but we decided to try something different and we weren't dissapointed. Scamorza cheese with speck appetizer wos exellent, also the Tagliolini pasta with clams and artichokes, not to mention the Pappardelle pasta with lamb ragu sauce. We also tryed a very flavourful Striped bass in a w... read more
