Basso56, is a swank Italian eatery popular with New Yorkers - and for good reason. The restaurant hand-picks traditional Italian spices and flavors and cooks them to perfection. Set the ball rolling with the grilled eggplant or calamari, and follow it up with some of their excellent handmade ravioli. Finish off with one of the richly mouthwatering desserts. There is a good wine list and prices are reasonable - the polite, friendly service also comes highly recommended.

Amazing Restaurantt... – We went to this restaurant with another couple and it's definitely an experience. Food's great, of course, but the service is off the hook. The wait staff are incredibly attentive! We ordered several items from the menu, and the one thing that struck me was the lack of veggies. That's my only criticism. The end of the meal, we all needed a walk. Overall, amazing.
Uneventful Meal – I had a relatively uneventful meal here. Not in a bad way, but the service was good, the meal was great, the ambiance was ok. I did have an excellent meal here. We had the calamari to start and then shared a couple of entrees. The salmone and the scottadto alla romana were tender and delicious. It is a bit on the pricey side .The wine list is pretty solid though.
Exactly what we were looking for – One of my Russian friends and I had a party around the corner from Basso 56 and searched for a restaurant to share a nice dinner with friends. I did citysearch and found Basso 56. Reviews were good so we decided to try it. What can I say? It was fantastic and far above my expectations. All the staff (from the beautiful pleasant hostess to bartender, manager, waiters, bus people) were friendly, helpful without being pushy. Service was outstanding. We didnt have to wait for drinks or food, ti... read more
PERFECT! One of the best Italian restaurants in NYC – I've been here twice with my girlfriend and plan on going back many more times. The first time was with her mother, and the second time was with my brother, and each time has been nothing short of fantastic. The service is prompt, attentive, and second to none. The two times we've been here, we've been served by (I believe) the manager, who has this charming and funny way of saying, "Perfect," whenever we tell him the food is delicious. The ambience is also warm and roman... read more
***AMAZING as Always*** Grazie! – I have been going to Basso56 for the past few years (back when it was in the LES 'Bassoest'). My last two birthday dinner parties here (latest this past Sat.) have been wonderful. Thank you Alex for Everything! The service is extremely accomodating, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere... elegant, but light. I wish they still had calamarii fritti on the menu, but the calamari griglia is just as tasty. I HIGHLY recommend the risotto frutti di mare... it is honestly one of the best I've ... read more
YUM! – This is a great place. The host is nice and accomodating. The pasta is fresh and delicious and the whole branzino is amazing. The dinning room is small but it seems to get very packed on most nights. I would recommend this place if you are in the midtownish area and want a nice italian dinner.
Not very good – After studying the reviews, my husband and I decided to try this Italian restaurant near Times Square. The hostess was very pleasant as she sat us at a quiet corner table. Our disappointment came when our food began to arrive. Service was very quick. We were finished our meal in 1 hour and 15 min. Our reservations were at 8 PM so we were not in a hurry to see a show. I think the staff just wanted to turn the tables. The food was not appetizing. The involtini was tough, the linguini was over done and the crabc... read more
Best Overall Italian Experience in City – The restaurant has a very inviting "neighborhood restaurant" feel--very friendly, outstanding service and it feels like most of the people are regulars (including us). Aleks, who manages the front, is outgoing and makes sure the service is incredibly responsive but not "hovering". And, it also has outstanding food (Paulo is creative and talented)--the pastas are fresh and inspired; the veal chop is thick and tender; and the fish is light and perfectly cooked. The burrata (mozzarella ... read more
Outstanding Decor and Atmosphere; Excellent Food – I have been a fan of Paolo Catini and Basso Est on the lower east side for some time now and so I was very excited to hear that he would be opening a new restaurant uptown very close to where I live. I have been there three times now and each time is better than the last. I Love the Room! It is such an imaginative and creative solution to the traditional New York long narrow ground floor space. The finishes are clean, textural and light, and the space feels spacious and yet ... read more
