Basil's Charleston location continues the work of the flagship North Carolina location, showcasing tasty Thai to visitors of the city's Historic Downtown district. Basil's menu will be familiar to Thaiaficionados although a few standouts such as the Basil Duck and Pad Thai keep locals coming back regularly. There are a number of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on offer, although there's an informal consensus that the meat dishes are the main attraction. Speaking of attractions, the glass-walled kitchen allows you to see th... read more

RESERVATION FOR 4 WILL COST YOU $100 BUCKS UP FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – This place has good food great service but they need help on getting the whole wait time and taking reservation thing down. It's not very hard to be nice on the phone when someone calls to try and support your place of business by trying to set an reservation for 4 at 6:30 on Saturday. We don't won't to hear we can do that but it will cost you $100 bucks to make a reservation "that's a joke". Then when we show up we are told that it will be 45 minutes ... read more
Best Pad Thai! Basil's is the best Thai place in town. The food is always great every time we go. The service is awesome. Sometimes it gets busy so be prepared! The coconut ice cream and chicken basil is also very good!
Best Thi food in Charleston – I've been several times and have always had a good meal. I like the atmosphere and the setting. It does get very busy and can have a long wait, but it is worth it. There is a bar next door if the wait is long they will come and get you at the bar when your table is ready. Service is good and friendly.
Benefits from no direct competition – The service was prompt and pleasant. The decor of the restaurant was trendy. My table had a light placed in a funny way that it cast shadow on my food in a weird way. I don't think I had ever noticed my own shadow at a restaurant. My girlfriend ordered some dish with tofu. This restaurant put me right back on my soap box about the stupid tofu. Restaurants should stop using these tough, fried tofu. It's not something that should be thrown in as just another type of "meat" at a Thai restau... read more
FISRT TIME - WILL NOT BE MY LAST! – This was my very first experience with Thai food. I was a little unsure (even had a second place to go if I was hungry after). No need for that! This was some of the best service I have had in months of dining out! My water glass never got half empty before one of the wonderful staff memebers appeared to fill my glass. When we explained that this was a totaly new experince and we we not sure what to expect, the waitress made sure to take time to explain the menu and dishes. We soon made ou... read more
Best pad thai ever! – If you're looking for great Thai food, Basil is the place to go. Get there early because it is packed after 11:45 am. Make reservations for dinner. It's such a happening place that even eating alone at the bar is cool and gives you an opportunity to meet people. Recommendations: Pad thai Masaman curry Spring rolls
awesome food – I have never had a bad meal here. The staff is kind and I bring all my out of town company here. yum
Pad Thai is to die for! Basil easily has the best Thai food in Charleston...definitely the best Thai restaurant that I have ever been to. The pad thai is out of this world delicious! It is definitely very busy on the weekends, and I would classify the style as semi-casual. Service is borderline, but they are very busy. Expect a short wait, so-so service and a GREAT MEAL that is worth every penny.
Best Thai food in Town Basil was my first exposure to Thai food which was somewhat unfortunate for me because none that I have had since has ever measured up to it. I have never had anything there that I didn't enjoy--from the appetizers and soup (the coconut soup is to die for!) to the entrees and then to dessert. The price is just right, too.
