About this business

Basil's Charleston location continues the work of the flagship North Carolina location, showcasing tasty Thai to visitors of the city's Historic Downtown district. Basil's menu will be familiar to Thaiaficionados although a few standouts such as the Basil Duck and Pad Thai keep locals coming back regularly. There are a number of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on offer, although there's an informal consensus that the meat dishes are the main attraction. Speaking of attractions, the glass-walled kitchen allows you to see th... read more

A Waffle House building that give birth to the best Thai food in Charleston Set in what used to be a waffle house, Basil Restaurant in Charleston provides some of the most affordable, authentic, and YUMMY food in Charleston. They do not take reservations so make sure to get there early on Friday's and Saturday's as they fill up fast!

Best Thai food in Town Basil was my first exposure to Thai food which was somewhat unfortunate for me because none that I have had since has ever measured up to it. I have never had anything there that I didn't enjoy--from the appetizers and soup (the coconut soup is to die for!) to the entrees and then to dessert. The price is just right, too.

Pad Thai is to die for! Basil easily has the best Thai food in Charleston...definitely the best Thai restaurant that I have ever been to. The pad thai is out of this world delicious! It is definitely very busy on the weekends, and I would classify the style as semi-casual. Service is borderline, but they are very busy. Expect a short wait, so-so service and a GREAT MEAL that is worth every penny. PROS: best pad thai outside of Asia CONS: service is borderline, restaurant always extremely busy!

Dirty Kitchen Habits in Basil I use to like Basils a lot, then the service get poorer and yes, you waited and their attitude became more arrogant. I don't pay for arrogant. Then even though i was tired of this place, (because i can't enjoy a meal with people who don't care about the customers) i went anyway, because my kids loved it. Well, we arrive almost at the end of lunch time, but they seated us and we were eating and sat by the window, me having a clear view of where the men are cooking and wear you can walk behind the... read more

Best Pad Thai! Basil's is the best Thai place in town. The food is always great every time we go. The service is awesome. Sometimes it gets busy so be prepared! The coconut ice cream and chicken basil is also very good!

Authentic – Very authentic. Very. It was a taste explosion! Small on the inside, not much of a bar but the food was so great. I liked that you could see inside the kitchen as well- made for some entertainment. I recommend this place to anyone that is a Thai lover.

BEST THAI DOWNTOWN – If you want to try some good Thai food, I highly recommend Basil. Weekends are super busy, though, so be prepared. My advice is go on an off-day (ie. Monday :) and try it out. Then, you can go back on weekends if you think it's worth it. For me, it's definitely worth the wait! Everything I've tried there is good, including pad thai and all the different curries. Very good food--!
