Very helpful – I was out for a ride in Clintonville and had to adjust my seat height. I over tightened my seatpost clamp and broke it. After reading all of the bad posts on here I decided to ride over to Baer wheels and see for myself. Dave greeted us as we walked through the door and asked if he could help us with something. I told him that I had broken my seatpost clamp and he asked me to bring the bike in. He stopped working on another bike to fix mine. He replaced the seatpost clamp, my wife used the restroom and we were... read more
Best Selection of Single Speed Bicycles in Columbus, OH – Bottom Line: the store has great prices, selection, and the employees are extremely knowledgeable. Arguably the best bike store in town. Go to any other bike store in Columbus and the selection is a sixth of what Baer Wheels offers. I've been in the store over 15 times and never witness or experienced the owner (allegedly "Dave") or any other employee acting disrespectful or unprofessional. My impression about Dave is that he is a straight-shooter, but he is by no mea... read more
Friendly, Helpful Bike Shop For All Levels of Cyclist – Bear Wheels has been a fixture in the Columbus cycling world for years. The shop has a relaxed atmosphere where novices and newbies will not feel intimidated by the seemingly endless decisions around bicycle equipment. Dave and his expert staff listen to what you're trying to accomplish and help you do so as economically as possible.
Knowledgeable and helpful – I needed to get some hub cones for my Shimano wheels because one had become pitted. When I called at first, they thought they had the correct part, but it turned out to not be correct. When Dave found out, he immediately went online looking for that or for a complete axle assembly. Since it was the weekend, he couldn't get ahold of anyone, but took my name and number with a promise to call back. The following Monday I did hear from him, and he had located the complete axle assembly, which didn't c... read more
Best variety and expertise in town – People skills are often lacking but Baer has best variety and expertise in town (if that's what you're looking for). Kudos also for their SagWag presence on lotsa group rides. So I take in stride the occasional lapse in medication, and dig the expertise; a trade off I'm (usually) comfortable with. Thanks u guys!
Great Customer Service – Dave at Baer Wheels really took care of my very "non-pro rider" needs and made my daughter's birthday a success. After reading several reviews on yelp, citysearch and other places for Baer wheels, I almost didn't call them when I needed new handgrips and streamers within 24 hours to fix up a used bike I bought for my daughter's 8th birthday, afraid I would be chastised for not being enough of a hard-core bike enthusiast. Instead, I got Dave on the phone first try, told him what I needed and he said h... read more
Snooty two-shoes – The owner of the store will be disturbed if you show up, especially if you need help because you haven't spent your life around bicycles learning the ways of the trade. If you must go to the store, it is best to find out the details about what you need first and get in and get out. The owner of the store acts like he puts his pants on differently in the morning; some sort of bicycle-elitist. Unless you do two front flips and land in your pants, you are not worth the time of day. I went into the store to re... read more
Great advice, great product lines, great prices – After researching online, I settled on a brand and style of bike that is not sold everywhere. Baer Wheels was one of two dealers in Columbus carrying the line. Having not been on a bike in, uh, 'several' years, I was going to be a customer who would need a lot of information and attention when I came to pick up the bike. I got both, with none of the 'tude' people have mentioned here. This was despite the shop being literally jammed non-stop on a sunny Saturday afternoon with ... read more
repeat customer – Don't believe the other crappy reviews....this is a good shop full of folks who want to help you ride happy. I spent about an hour in April with to the owner talking about what type of bike I thought I'd like; he'd bring up suggestions or concerns then we'd talk about them. We talked about road, touring and cyclocross bikes, what kind of daily rider I was and talked about some longer term riding goals I have. Then he started offering suggestions about either creating a bike from a Surly frame outward or buy... read more
