One of two Azuma restaurants in the city of Houston, this Downtown eatery is known for its sushi and grilled preparations. Appetizers like edamame, peppercorn tuna tataki and melting prawns start off your meal. House specialties include the Azuma beef, Chilean sea bass, duck breast risotto and ahi tuna steak. Specialty rolls like the spicy tuna crisp, Thia salmon and Cajun are worth a try.

Stick with the Original – I went to their downtown location and took some newcomers from Michigan. I raved about Azuma, because I had always enjoyed their Kirby location. Much to my dismay, we discovered that rolls' fish and rice tasted dry. I was embarrassed because my guests were first-time sushi eaters.
Ehh – The waitress, Michelle, was very attentive and pleasant. The sushii was second rate at best. I have had better at shopping mall sushi stands.
Best Sushi Dishes – I'm a huge sushi eater and lover and have tried numerous sushi bars. Azuma D/T is my favorite, hands down. I love the White Angel & Red Devil sushi plates..they are awesome! The fish is always fresh and I actually witnessed a delivery of fish once. They guy came in with this huge, fresh fish and they unwrapped the fish, cleaned it and began to slice it up for sushi. Ask for a Melon Rita..those are great too! I like RA too on Westheimer and their lobster & shrimp roll is to die for but to me, Azuma has bet... read more
Better Sushi elsewhere – It's nice having a sushi restaurant downtown, but it's not very impressive. The decor is wonderful and the service is nice, but the two times I have eaten here I wasn't impressed. I've had fresher fish at other sushi restaurants in town.
Great night – Had a great night. Food was good (had tastier tuna elsewhere), service excellent (we were drunk and a bit outrageous, yet our server remained polite and courteous and agreed to our every request). Nice decor, great cocktails. Just everything great. And I am a hard man to please. I will return.
Customer service and the Kitchen's attention to detail have slipped cconsiderably in the past three weeks – Normally, I take people to Azuma's because of its great service and it is one of the more entertaining eating experiences in Houston. Food is good, but not 5 star. Service is generally 5 star. However, the past two times that I have been to Azuma's the service has been mediocre at best and the kitchen's attention to detail on the food has been poor. 1. Rice is served with cold teriyaki sauce. 2. Rice is reserved cold w... read more
The best sushi good service. – This was probably one of the top 3 meals that I have ever enjoyed. The presentation of our rolls was excellent and the flavor unbelievable. The service was excellent and helped to make for a great evening. The red devil roll and the pollo were the best. When we were leaving the only problem of the evening was encountered when we had to wait 15 minutes to get our vehicle back at the valet stand. Highly recommended.
AZUMA - GREAT PLACE TO EAT – Sunday evening at the bar - as usual the staff was very friendly, accomodating to us soccer fans by changing the TV in the bar to allow us to enjoy a match with our mojitos...which were the best we've had anywhere, kudos to the bartender, Leon. Our meal was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. We enjoyed our evening very much as we have our previous three visits. If you haven't been to Azuma yet, you need to move it to the top of your list for places to go.
good sushi, service is lacking – Well, the sushi here is pretty tasty. The spicy tuna indeed has a spicy kick. However, to bring out food for 2 out of 6 people and leave the rest of us waiting for our meals for 10 minutes is not only terrible service, but lacks any sort of common sense for a restaurant in the United States. Oh, you comped the $4 appetizer, wow! This place is pretty pathetic with the service and the waitstaff overall incompetent. If I give you a large bill and you don't want to bring me change back, bring me ... read more
