I reserved a car through their online site for pick up at o'hare airport for November 11. When I made the reservation they immediately charged my card. When I when you go pick up the rental I did not have the card I had originally paid with. The women at the counter had me call customer service. Upon calling customer service they told me that they could not release the rental today because I did not have credit. What does my credit score have to do with a car rental?? Arrived to pick up a vehicle ordered through my corporate company for a work related trip. They not only did not have the vehicle when I arrived but were rude, rushed and simply told me I was "just out of luck and can try another location" for a vehicle as nothing had been returned from the inventory. BUYER BEWARE / Bait & Switch: As a long time "Preferred" customer of Avis/Budget, I made a reservation on Avis site for one month rental, CDW - Collison Damage Waiver, was accepted and therefore included in the rental price quoted. I rented a vehicle for a one way trip to MA; only to find out that I had selected the wrong dates. I contacted Avis to reschedule the one way but the dates I needed weren't available. So I had to cancel my reservation. Normally, Avis hits you with a $50.00 cancellation fee (which I think is horrible) but since my reservation was two weeks out and I had to cancel because they didnt have anything available, the customer service rep said she would waive the cancellation fee. The worst, purposely lied about having cars. Purposely didn't answer the phone to say he didn't have car's. Purposely acknowledge the fact that he was letting the phone ring so the international call center could answer knowing they didn't know if he had cars or not. Booked a car at 4pm on a Friday, asked how late they were open on Saturday. Girl said 4pm, but if we were a a bit late it was no big deal. She wrote the time of 4pm return on my contract before I left and said she opened the next day and as long as it was back by later Saturday there would be no extra charge. I rented a car thru ******* for 31 days for budget, on arrival I was told I could only rent the car for 28 days. I then informed them I might have to change my return plans. The agent told me to just return it to the airport when I flew out. I specifically asked if it was going to be extra to do that, and he said no it was fine. I booked a car with Avis at a price that included taxes and fees. I get to the Portland airport to pick up the car and was presented with an estimate that was more than double the agreed upon amount. I protested but the lady at the counter said that this was normal and that it was just "taxes". If I wanted the car, I would have to agree. The first employee I spoke with was rude and callous. I requested a car for 5 days, and she gave me the price of only 1 day representing that price as the cost for the entire time of the rental. When I returned the car 25 hours later (4 days sooner than I was told it would need to be returned), I was charged an additional $200. I also had to wake up the employees at the return desk who then asked me to go back to the car to retrieve the mileage, which I have never experienced when returning a rental. By way of explanation, Avis charges start when the car is rented; rates are based on a 24-hour day, but customers are allowed a grace period of 29 minutes before additional charges are applied.
