This is my first time to leave a negative review. While the hotel was nice and authentic, they mistakenly overcharged me for two times (total $100). It was ok if they can resolve the issue smoothly but I needed to call for 3 times (no response to email) to report and fix the issues since the front desk was not so professional and knowledgeable. Some of them have never responded back. I’m still waiting for a refund.
The Proper Hotel in Austin, Texas, has so much potential. The customer service, though, could use a gentle nudge—half the staff is delightful, while the other half seems a bit out of tune. I’d encourage management to inspire everyone to bring their best, warmest selves to work. With a little kindness across the board, this place could truly shine.

Best spot in Austin. The bar is low. The staff knows it and acts like it. It’s cute to see them not care about the guests. Not all, but more than 50%. Culture issue but I’m certain they’ll figure it out. At least the property is way better than the sad one in Santa Monica.
