Meet the Business Owner Andy B. Business Owner I've been a personal trainer to pro athletes, rehabilitation clients, weekend warriors, as well as people just looking to get in better health for the past 17 years. I opened our gym in 2007 because I've grown tired of the typical gym with the meet market atmospheres, cell phones, contracts, sales pitches, and under qualified "trainers". My wife and I opened our gym as an alternative to the giant big box gyms. It's a spotless, superbly equipped, and genuinely friendly neighborho... read more

Mr. Mendoza AFC is an awesome gym.......it's nice and cool inside, extremely clean, and has a very friendly atmosphere. I for one do not care for gyms that strictly have weight machines and cardio machines, which makes AFC perfect since it has a variety of everything including lots of free weights too(also a squat rack, a dip bar, a pullup/chinup bar which I love.) Also, one of the previous posts said there was little variety in cardio machines, but AFC has ellipticals, treadmills, AND bike machines as well as plenty of othe... read more
Wonderful I consider a good gym to be one that offers affordable rates, is clean, friendly, accessible, and has everything you reasonably need to get a good work out and meet your goals. The Austin Fitness Center is all of those things plus one very big advantage- the owner. I can't say enough good things about Andy Bruchey. I'm not the type of person to work with a trainer- I know my way around a weight room and am a life-long athlete who took anatomy and physiology and sports medicine classes in college. But Andy isn't lik... read more
Friendly neighborhood gym PROS: No TVs, must turn off cell phones If you come here to hit on the ladies you WILL get in trouble. Informal -- no membership card. They know who you are. Sparkling clean, well maintained. Andy is an experienced "lifer" trainer, not some kid who managed a Pizza Hut last week. Knows his stuff! Check out his journal and you will see he is constantly keeping abreast of fitness and health issues. CONS: No TVs, must turn off cell phones If you come here to hit on the ladies you WILL get in trouble. No... read more
A Gem I joined Austin Fitness Center a couple of years ago and weigh almost forty pounds less. My workout is not about socializing, wearing expensive clothes or paying a lot of money. I was a member of another gym here in Austin for 25 years and paying twice as much. An accident moved me from fitness to rehabilitation. When I was ready to get back to fitness, the cleanliness, professionalism, knowledgeable staff and affordability made my decision for me. While most of the equipment is weight machines, this is by no means a '... read more
Great place to workout Some gyms can be uncomfortable for ladies to use, but this gym is a safe and welcoming environment. I enjoy the yoga classes and other gym amenities. The owners of Austin Fitness Center are both helpful and repectful. Each time I visit, I get an effective workout! I encourage you to join.
AWESOME! The place is spotless, very well equipped for serious athletes and everyday people alike. The atmosphere is very friendly and there's no typical gym nonsense here. Andy Bruchey, the owner, trains a wide variety of people. He's a nice guy who genuinely cares about people and really knows what he's doing. I've worked with him for 4 years now and the results, if I may say so, are outstanding. I absolutely love this place. Everyone else seems to as well.
Great Gym!!! I found this gym almost three years ago when I was looking for a personal trainer and have been there ever since. Andy (the owner) is helpful, knows his stuff, and gets results. Even if personal training is not for you it's got a great selection of new/clean weight and cardio equipment. I am still drawn to the friendly and personal atmosphere that this gym offers...something that was lacking in the "big box" gyms who seemed to only be interested in me when my wallet was open.
Here to stay I'm very happy I found this gym! So many gyms are vying for our dollars here in South Austin. Most of them are corporate giants and the few that are small are poorly equipped and poorly cleaned/maintained. This gym is the exception by a mile. The owner is a class act who really knows his stuff. The equipment is more than most everyone will ever need and the place is spotless at all times. I love it. The price is beyond reasonable at $28/month and there's no nonsense initiation fees to pay or contracts. I'm very ... read more
We love this little gym! Only a fool would say a bad word about this place. My husband and I have known the owner for just over 7 years and he is a sincerely nice guy who not only knows what he's doing, but enjoys it and loves helping people as well. The energy is great in there and I love that little gym! The equipment is great, everything is clean, and the people that go there are nice and friendly. Allow me to repeat myself... I love this little gym!
