If I could change one thing about my Father's end of life care, I would have switched his hospice agency. There are some very good, kind, people that work there, but one hand can't clap. We felt neglected by this agency multiple times through out the process. The worst was at the end when they knew he was declining rapidly but did not bother to talk to the family about it. My mother was cared for by Arkansas hospice for the last 3 weeks of her life. Each Arkansas hospice employee was professional, compassionate and helpful. I would highly recommend them to anyone choosing a hospice company.
My mother suffered a massive stroke this past March, and was rushed to the ER at CHI St. Vincent's in Hot Springs. We were advised by the ER doctor that her condition was eminent, and that we should consider admission to Arkansas Hospice's inpatient unit there at the hospital. My mother passed away almost immediately (a matter of minutes). But even knowing she had already passed, the team from Arkansas Hospice came to visit us in the ER to offer support.
All they care about is reducing meds to nothing and pumping patients full of pain killers and diarrhettics. They accuse caregivers of theft, abuse, neglect when they are the one committing crimes. They coerce family members to blame people wrongfully and disrespect people. I would never put a family member in their care. They are the biggest joke I have ever seen.
