My philosophy of practicing medicine is building better health care together. I feel that in order to be a healer, I need to develop a healthy doctor-patient relationship where I believe in you and you believe in me. My medical school training was in Ohio at Boonshaft Wright State University Medical School and Internal Medicine Residency training at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, and I have been practicing medicine for over 21 years. I feel as a doctor I can act as a consultant to you and your health and ... read more

Horrible. I went to see him after being in the hospital for a week. I was struggling with a high dose of prednisone that I needed to get safely off of. Instead, he comes in the room saying we have :communication problems'. What? Then he tells me he doesn't know how to treat recurring pneumonia and can't I just leave and find another primary care? After being his patient for 10 years I was blown away by his unprofessional demeanor, No, I would not recommend him especially since he charges $800 conscerage fee.
Upon arrival for my New Patient Appointment on Feb 15th the front desk clerk informed me that my appointment had been changed from in-person visit to a telephone call adding that no in-person appointments would be honored until March. I was never informed of this change by Dr. Bernens' staff; moreover the My Chart web site clearly indicated that I had an in-person appointment, and the doctor's patient portal made no mention of it. So much to say and so little room to say it.
Always attentive, he maintains a reliable and accommodating appointment schedule beginning with a highly competent and pleasant assistant to begin the appt.
Dr. Bernens is a caring, talented physician who is known for his thoroughness and communication skills. As my PC, he has successfully guided me towards outstanding specialists whenever an issue required more info and testing. You never feel rushed during your appointment, and his follow up is great. After 15 years as a patient, I am thankful I my healthcare is in good hands.
Dr. Bernens' practice was just what I was looking for. He spends longer appointment times to get get to know your history and problems, and he takes his time to explain his recommendations and treatment plans. I highly recommend him if you're looking for a doctor who builds a strong doctor / patient relationship.
My wife and I had been satisfied patients for more than 15 yrs. as we aged (we are in our 80's) my wife developed a number of maladies which seemed to be increasingly challenging to the doctor. At one time he recommend she be set aside under palliativecare, which was strongly rejected. He finally, with no discussion nor warning sent a letter terminating our relationship telling us to get another doctor. I do not believe he any longer subscribes to the oath he took when he became a doctor.
