Upscale seafood place in hip spot Anchor & Hope is run by the same people who brought SF the Salt House (about a block away). Tucked away on Minna (near 2nd & Mission) - Anchor & Hope is a big hangar-like space that resembles one of the fish processing buildings along the pier. Massive skylights and the big open front brings plenty of natural light into the place and they've turned it into an upscale seafood place that is great for business lunches. I had lunch there today. Anchor & Hope is a great dinner spot downtown This is a great place for seafood in SOMA. We had the smoked oysters wrapped in bacon for our appetizer and they were fantastic! My entree was even better. Seared scallops with a spicy garlic sauce over couscous. The restaurant layout is very open so if you want a very quit private dinner then this isn't the place. However if you're looking for a vibrant (albeit a bit noisy) seafood restaurant in SOMA with a good wine selection then this is the place!

Since I was dining by myself at lunch, I opted for the bar and that ended up being a good choice. Both the bar/waitstaff and the manager were friendly, helpful, and just generally nice to share a conversation or three. I started with the clam chowder, which had a nice undertone of the bacon. Loaded with clams, it was a nice appetizer. For the entree, I had seen it one of top rated lobster ... read more
