Best Massage in SF – We did the couples instruction followed by side-by-side massages. Very good all around. Marty was exceptional and my spouse said it was one of the best massages he has ever had...we have masssages about 1X per month so that is quite an accomplishment.
Quality of Service Varies – Just so you know, on Nov. 10 2006 NYU literature professor and author N'gugi wa Thiong'o was staying at this hotel while on tour promoting his new Random House novel when a hotel staffer ordered him to leave the premises, even after he protested that he was a registered guest (and a rather esteemed one at that). There are several news articles about the incident, which are easy to find.
American...oh? – Americano is a great space with place to grab a drink, sit down and eat, or enjoy the outdoors. The food is decent, interesting selection, with a fun selection of deserts. The scene was not as exciting, mainly business suits, but if you bring your own crowd who cares right?! Bring your crew, grab a bite to eat, and head outdoors with your drinks and see the bay bridge all lighted up.
not impressed – We needed to make a lunch reservation on short notice and Americano was one of the only available ones. I ordered the dine about town lunch and found the steak that they offered to be extremely tough and difficult to cut, let alone chew. A member of our party ordered the $15 burger and the bread was hard and abrasive. The Scharfen Berger chocolate pudding and prune ice cream helped to make up for previous short comings. Great location, but average value – Overall, our experience was fine, but I'm not sure we'd go back. All in all, the room really wasn't that cheap (about $160 a night including taxes) for a "budget" hotel. Maybe that's San Francisco, though? Pluses: Fabulous location (walking distance to great restaurants and shopping); Free parking; Clean rooms; Funky decor; Free breakfast (don't expect much, though). Hotel Vitale is a classic. – I will start off by telling you that I stayed in one of their suites. I found that the room was beautifully lit and decorated with simple furniture yet it was very stylish. The room had a spacious bathroom, a dining table that could fit five, a couch that could fold out into a bed, wireless internet, a desk with drawers, a chair to sit comfortably at the desk, a flat screen televsion, a nice bedside Clock CD/Radio that played "White noise" if you need to relax, and a KING bed. Must try the french fries – The atmosphere is nice but quite loud. The food there is generally good but one of the best items on the menu is the french fries, hands down.
Enjoyable dinner – The really enjoyed the atmosphere at Americano. The seats are very comfortable, and I like the modern space. The place certainly draws an attractive and trendy crowd. Service and food were good, but not great. I liked the soup and steak that I ordered, but they weren't much different from what I make at home, and there are some neighborhood restaurants that have better food at a lower price.
