I studied anthropology because I was drawn to the wealth of what can be gained by learning about different societies and cultures. It was the openness to difference that I found to be most valuable. It appears that has devolved into anti-intellectual bigotry. Cutting off a society by a cultural, or even worse- academic boycott, is absolutely antithetical to the field of anthropology as I know it. Major fail, American Anthropological Association. A social science organization ostensibly devoted to understanding multiple cultural perspectives dares to use the term "Jewish supremacy [! ]" in one of its official proposals? I am a Jewish feminist who is against the occupation, for Meretz/Yachad, and for the creation of a viable Palestinian state but this boycott proposal will not help! I would even consider support for giving voting rights and full citizenship to Palestinians in a bi-national state if Likud keeps winning ... read more

Your decison to boycott the apartheid state of Israel is an incredible and commendable decision and shows your integrity and opposition to the constant and severe human rights violations committed on a daily basis by Israel.
