They charge a service charge of $49.34, regardless whether you use any electricity or not. My property is season, and only used 2 weekends per month for 6 months. I called to see if it could be disconnected for the 6 months that we do not use the cabin. I was informed that they still charge a service charge per month while it is disconnected, and $100 to reactivate. We have two cabins, which ends up costing us approx $600 per year while no services are being rendered. Very unethical, if not criminal.
2-3 long duration outages every year since we moved here in 2020. Some lasting days with very poor communication.
It’s a small, rural electric co-op, running on old infrastructure, which seems to go down a lot and experience a lot of outages. Perhaps an upgrade to smarter technologies would lessen outage impacts, shorten outage times, and improve reliability, although I don’t think many people up here would support the increase in cost that would inevitably be passed along to the consumer.
Since the office closes at 4pm and my power went out at 4:14pm, I was instructed to use the automated system to report my outage. First of all the system did not work, I was instructed to input my phone number which I did several times, but it was clearly not working because it asked me to input the number several times, which I proceeded to do 4 times with no success.
