I have progressive multiple sclerosis and have seen Dr. Z 6 years In those years Dr Z did virtually nothing to treat me and showed an alarming disinterest or knowledge of current research in the field. In addition I found Dr Z's bedside manner to be cold and arrogant. Thank god I was referred to a different neurologist who immediately has switched me to a newer, more aggressive drug to slow the progression and has recommended wonderful therapies to treat my symptoms. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Dr Z
I am deeply dissatisfied by my experience with Dr. Zacharias. Not only did he fail to find the correct diagnosis (having instead diagnosed me with a terminal illness), he never returned any of my phone calls once I was rediagnosed. Prior to this, I had one short call with him in which he sounded impatient and annoyed with my questions (despite the severity of my health condition.) He failed to tell me to get contrast for an MRI, which I now need to redo, or send test results to current doctor.
I have seen Dr. Zacharias for over 12 years. I have developed a chronic condition that is extremely painful and really has no cure. Dr. Zacharias has been there, by my side every step of the way. He would put me in hospital for IV pain treatments if the pain was too bad to try to give me some relief. He would search around the country for new and even experimental procedures that different neurologists might be doing. I have NEVER had a physician go to the mat for me like Dr. Zacharias.
I like the doctor, but scheduling is awful. I needed to reschedule my annual apt and was told they wouldn't refill my prescription until I came in. I told them I would come in as soon as possible, but they don't have any appointments for 2 months so now I need to find a new neurologist just so I can get my medicine. Not helpful, not willing to work with me on scheduling/refilling my prescription and in turn putting me at risk for seizures. They clearly do not care about their patients.
I would recommend Dr. Zacharias to anyone who I thought could benefit from his help. I met with Dr. Zacharias for the first time last week for an EMG, he was the most helpful and professional of anyone I have had one of these tests performed by, and I have had several, all from different doctors.
Alan Zacharias, MD has a 3.3 star rating with 32 reviews.
