My father had metastatic bladder cancer in his spine. Dr. Nowlan decided to give my father 4 doses of radiation in one, citing some study regarding effectiveness. He failed to tell me and father about the side effects of such a large dose. There was no conversation about pain meds prior to radiation. By the time my father got home, he was writhing in pain, unable to speak. I called Dr. Nowlan and the only thing he said is “what is your pharmacy?”. Dr. Nowlan is an amazing doctor. He is brilliant, compassionate, patient, and kind. He makes his patients feel respected and heard. He is never dismissive, condescending, or too busy to give you a thorough and detailed explanation. There are certain medical professionals like Dr. Nowlan for whom medicine is a calling and not just a profession.
