With its spectrum of bright colors caused by heat-loving bacteria, the Morning Glory Pool in Yellowstone National Park is a sight to see. The hot spring is just one of the natural wonders in the Upper Geyser Basin, most visited for the famous Old Faithful Geyser. Sneak away from the masses on a roughly three-mile (round-trip) paved trail—friendly to both pedestrians and cyclists—that takes you by some of the biggest geysers in the area and ends at this prismatic pool. The dahlias are in bloom! AAA Member Reuel (IG: @1qahig_1tooqah) captured these beauties at the annual Dahlia Festival in Canby, Ore., just south of Portland. The fest is happening this weekend and next (Labor Day Weekend) at Swan Island Dahlias—but you can visit the 35 acres of flower fields on your own time until the end of September. Where have you been lately? Post your photos with the hashtag #ViaAdventure.

Where in the West is this massive crater—measuring 600 feet deep and half a mile across—which was the result of hot magma exploding as it reached ground water? Hint: The vast cavity is located in the national park that lies below sea level and boasts the lowest point in North America. National parks contain many wonders, but some of the best are off the beaten path. Check out AAA Via magazine's list of hidden gems: http://bit.ly/2KNbMMX Photo: Dean Fikar

Tens of thousands of Pacific gray whales migrate along the Northwest coast each year, and Depoe Bay offers one of the best places to watch. Centrally located on the Oregon coast, Depoe Bay’s kelp-filled waters are teeming with the tiny shrimp these colossal mammals munch on during their travels. Via has a guide to exploring Depoe Bay—fresh seafood, French-inspired cuisine, and unique boutiques—for a lovely coastal escape: http://bit.ly/2Z8d4e4 Photo: David H. Collier Photography

Would you like fries with that? Absolutely, because it’s National Potato Day! Portland’s Ataula spotlights the tuber in its riff on the classic Catalan dish Patatas Bravas, with sous vide–soft potatoes stacked high, fried to a crisp, and topped with a spicy tomato sauce and garlicky aioli. Nothing says summer like a day relaxing on the lake. We love this stunning image of granite-rimmed Watson Lake near Prescott, Ariz., by AAA Member Deva Lingemann (IG: @dlingemann). While you can't swim in its enticing waters, you can enjoy boating, hiking, and bass fishing. Where have you been lately? Post your photos with the hashtag #ViaAdventure.

Have your sights on one last road trip with friends before the summer ends? Make the expense side of the adventure easy by setting a daily budget ahead of time—based on everyone’s resources and the number of days you’ll be on the road. #ViaSmartTip: Establish a system for how to pay bills by using apps such as Venmo or Splitwise. This way, expenses don’t come as a surprise and everyone ends up footing their fair share of the costs.
