Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Excellent – I have no idea how the previous reviewer could not have like the lamb riblets as I just came here to rave about them. Tender, succulent, fall of the bone good. They are not rack of lamb and no one that can read a menu should have been confused. Riblets are like baby back ribs.... Wine and service were also very good. We did wait 20 minutes for a table, but come on, all restaurants that are similarly priced and just as popular have some waits for reservations. I would rather wait 30 minutes than have them raise th... read more
Horrible Experience – Waited 30 minutes past reservation time to be seated; too loud to converse; appetizers ok; main course was lamb rack, except it was not; shoe leather is a better description of the horrible mess they had the courage to serve to two unfortunates at our table. When we told them it was inedible, the response was "too bad". No offer to replace. They do not care what they serve or how bad it is. I can not understand why anyone would go to A16 in a city with so many excellent restaurants and restauranters who... read more
not so impressed – We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation. Service was minimal afterwards. The appetizers were very good. The pasta was bad - not even mediocre. The pizza was tasty. The music in the background loud and with an irritating beat.
Good food, long waits – The food here is very good, but expect to wait a long time to get it. We waited for 45 mins. past our reservation time on a Saturday night, and the bar area is fairly small and very crowded. Once seated, the service was good and the prices are very reasonable ($100 incl. tip for 2 people with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 dessert and 2 coffees).
Loved it! – We recently learned about A16 from Bon Apetit's mention, then we saw it as a top 10 restaurant in the Chronicle, and a day later on television on Evening Magazine. I placed a bet with my wife that it will be all hype and no substance. I lost the bet. Although the pizzas are excellent and similar to what we had while traveling in Pompeii, it is the other dishes that blew us away. We can't get enough of the chard rolls stuffed with ricotta and of the lamb ribs, braised and fall off the bone tender. Service was prof... read more
Overpriced/underserviced restaurant! – We went by a recommendation from one of the investors in this restaurant. Even after making reservations a day in advance and stating that it was my birthday (my wife made the reservation), we were given the worst seats in the back of the restaurant on the veranda. They had water on the floor with the recent rain! The service was not that great either. The calamari appetizer was very fishy and avoid at any cost. The pizza was underbaked...my lamb was mediocore at best...only my wife's f... read more
Mangiamo!! – Put it this way!!, It was so impressive I proposed that night to my girlfriend of 5 years. It was memorable not only for the engagement but for the romantic and cozy atmosphere, oustanding and personal service and mouth-wateringly delicious food. A high end restaurant without the attitude....The Wine is great so areful not to have too much..
the hostesses are lacking, but... – Well, I waited two hours for a table here when I was told that it would be 45 minutes. That made me angry. The amazing thing is that I left this restaurant wanting to come back! No, I didn't have a reservation, stupid me, but I believed the hostesses. Well, once we finally sat down, I slowly came out of the funk that I was in. The food was served lightening quick, and our server was generally concerned that i was, well, ticked off. I had an amazing beef dish and a buratta mozzarella appeti... read more
So Good – This place is so authentic it almost made me want to cry. I have no idea how they have managed to replicate the food of Napoli in San Francisco, but I am glad they did. The pizza marinara is a work of art. They also had lots of guts to serve only Southern Italian wines that nobody knows about it. All I can say is that I love it.
