Fantastic Bar during Castro Street Festival – I was in San Francisco Sept 25-Oct 5, 2009. I had a great time and 440 was a frequent stop. I met lots of great new friends and, overall, enjoyed each visit to the 440.

Friendly staff. Great place to meet people. – Some of the friendliest staff to be found. An added bonus is that most of them are damned hot. Great drinks and a good value. Friendly customers and it is easy to strike up a conversation. Great location in the heart of the Castro. Lots of regulars stop in, but also a lot of tourists. Nice neighborhood bar that's still trying to find itself... – The old bar was called Daddy's. It had a great collection of bartenders that fit the name of the place. It had a leather curtain for a door. It was a man's bar. Sadly, those days are gone. The bartenders are all nice still, but the old guard was pretty much pushed out or fired. A multilevel gay bar with theme nights that cater to a Levi's-and-leather crowd. – In Short Beyond the black leather curtain at the entrance, thumping diva dance music pumps throughout the bi-level space. The entire venue is darkly lit, with masculine icon art adorning the walls. Downstairs holds the bar and most of the drinkers, while the upstairs area provides room to get down and boogie, or get a little flirty and dirty. Every night has a theme, be it Friday's Black Hanky night or Monday's underwear party.

Nicely re-decorated! But the Service is seriously lacking! – If you don't mind waiting forever for your cocktail this "has-been" bar is now one of the hot spots in The Castro. The drinks can be a little on the week side and the attidude from the staff can be a bit overwhelming. Mondays are "underwear night" and you may see mor than you need to! A great alternative to the usual video bars, but this place needs an upgrade in staff. The clientele can be a little aggresive, but that is the "Daddys" tradition.

Creepy Beyond Belief – Daddy's is right on Castro St., so they can't enforce a leather dress code because so many people would protest. Therefore, it attracts the worst of both the leather community and the "civilian" dressed crowd. Old, white, creepy guys who leer at you until you are nauseated, drunk Asian guys with backpacks and white shoes groping you, and guys who look like Lurch on the make. For good leather, stick to the Loading Dock. Pass up this creep zone.
