Jazz Dive Bar – I've only been in NY for couple of months but this place is pretty cool. I went on a Wednesday night and there was this awesome Jazz band jaming out. The bassist seemed to love the music more than anything in the world. Drinks were well done and bartenders where cool. Its a jem in the desert. Got some good chinese food right on the corner too. This place is definately a nice spot to get away from the midtown uptown mess. Its a little ways away but definately worth the trip. Cheers!
I'd rather drink at a garbage dump in New Jersey – If you went to this bar you were probably suckered into seeing a band. Everyone knows that this place or the Pussycat lounge are desperate for music acts. If you're a music act aim high and skip this joint. If your friend is playing there, skip that show. The staff is a bunch of a holes, that don't even like music. They are just trying to screw people into giving them money. Type of place where people pay $10 to see their friends play a bad show and then leave promptly after... read more
The Worst Bar in NYC? – It's the worst I've been to by far. Worst musical act I've seen in the last five years too (cd scratcher). Seriously, they buzz you in after shaking you down for $10. The decor looks like The Max from "Saved by the Bell". I'm feel bad for Chinatown. I went there to support a musician friend and it ruined my Saturday.
People who talk about how rude everyone was to them want to be offended. Look! I've been offended! I wouldn't worry. 169 is fine. One might guess that with a ten dollar cover for a show that their prices could be a bit lower ($3 PBR can, $5 Brooklyn guggler, etc.), but, hey, I don't know if they get a crowd on weekdays. Smallest 'stage' ever, but spirited acts. Not 'full of' wankers, but you might spot wankers. Definitely wear glasses, if you need them. Yours truly,
RewBee - Alternative Rock Americana – It's warm and intimate setting to see great bands such as RewBee (dot com) - The jewel of NYC. RewBee plays a distinct brand of Alternative Rock Americana. I can't wait to see there next performance on Oct. 26th at 8pm.
Going 5/13 – i haven't been in many, many years. back in the day it was on par with holiday cocktail lounge. now, we'll see. my boyfriend's band is playing there on 5/13. i have heard mixed reviews but most of them are negative, especially about the staff. many people have said that the waitstaff is very rude. i'll let ya'll know how it goes on sat.
169 -- Better Than Ever – I've seen this place change through the years (it used to be one of the neighborhood bars I'd go to), and it's now better than ever. A good crowd, it no longer smells like fried food, and the music always rocks. If you're looking for a bar that doesn't cater to annoying wanna-be hipsters, this is it.
first and last impressions – I once handled some booking there. There was constant mismanagement and miscommunication...and it continues to this day. It's too bad. The F is nearby and there are plenty of amenities. But I will never patronize this dive again; they've shown a great lack in sensitivity and faith in anybody bringing them business.
The Little Club That Could – I just checked this out after having a blast at 169 bar. After reading these reviews, I have no idea what these folks are You know what tehy say about opinions.... I don't know if it's new owners, or new bookers, but the atmosphere was cool. I had fun. The staff was nice and I really dug the musicians. Worth a shot....
