What urban sushi should be! – They take reservations! And they honor them! Considering the size of this place (it is small), that can be a real plus on a busy weekend. The menu is extensive and the sushi fresh. I'm not a sushi expert so I can't linger on the finer points, but I know what I like and I've never been disappointed here. The staff is very friendly (maybe they've improved since others shared less-than-great experiences). Service can be slow when the restaurant is busy.

Zensei Sushi, not reccomended – I was surprised that this place had such great reviews. Every roll we ordered, at 12.50 a piece, had chipotle sauce on it. Gross!

Top quality food, excellent service: A real find. – Thank you! We were four adults and three small kids in town from Santa Barbara and Houston to do the Sea World, Legoland, etc tour. We all eat Japanese food frequently and Zensei was a real find: excellent food, broad menu, incredibly friendly and thoughtful service, reasonable prices, and mellow ambiance. If we lived in San Diego, Zensei would be our regular weekly Japanese fix.

Zensei Sushi of North Park – Any restaurant creditable of making the Zagat rating is a place worth trying. For 2008, Zensei Sushi was one of the few selected in the Zagat, listed amongst America's Top Japanese Restaurants.

Best Sushi in SD – This is hands down my favorite sushi spot in San Diego. Even when they are crazy busy, the service is wonderful (no they don?t magically create tables out of thin air, but they are friendly and attentive, which these days is rare). The sushi chefs are a treat, fun and always willing to share some sake (if you are starving sit at the bar and get your sushi super-speedy-like). I?m not one for all the crazy rolls that people come up with, but I will try anything once (or at least a bite or two of whatever eve... read more

Our Favorite Sushi Spot – I can't say enough wonderful things about zensei. We eat here regularly and it's a treat everytime. We usually get the bom boms, which are shitake mushrooms stuffed with crab and tempura fried, edamame and two rolls. northern lights is my favorite and then of course there's the 30th and Upas. It's easy to be creative with such exotic ingredients but it is very rare for the risk to pay off in such a big way. Zensei consistently puts out delicious food that keeps it's patrons coming back week after we... read more

Funky sushi innovations, local artwork and music make this corner fish joint a popular late-night haunt. – In Short Innovative sushi rolls, sake concoctions and fresh-spun tunes invoke a trendy Tokyo café vibe in San Diego's North Park. Local pride shows in the display of revolving artwork and inspires rolls like the 30th and Upas (spicy tuna inside, tuna and avocado on top with a spicy sauce). Save room for the main event after a tasty selection of appetizers such as fried gyoza with spicy mayonnaise, flame broiled chicken ... read more
