Fantastic hair dresser and great person I don't usually write reviews, but I read the negative reviews about Jason and had to write about my own experiences at Zen 2002. I first saw Jason's work nearly 40 years ago on a coworker. She was Jason's model at a hair show. I believe he won some category - if he didn't he sure deserved a prize. Knows hair I am a guy and have some what hard to manage hair as it is coarse and a bit thick. I've been to other high end salons but they can't get my hair right. Zen is open Tuesday-Saturday, but if you need a late appointment, Jason can accomodate you. (very hard working). When you first come for your appointment, you'll be greeted and the shampoo person will call you to change into a smock. Excellent for 20+ years I have been going to Zen 2002 for over 20 years now and I won't go anywhere else for haircuts. Jason, the owner, is great at knowing what will look best on me and has been consistently excellent in the quality of his cuts. I've read some of the complaints in other reviews about how they will sometimes be massaged or get a blowdry from an assistant instead of the stylist, but this is a pretty common practice at high-end hair salons that get really busy as far as I know. Good cut, good color I've been seeing Jason for about two years for cut and color. I must say that no one has been able to cut my hair so that I can maintain the style myself between salon visits. I've been to some well known places, not just around the corner. But Jason has enabled me to maintain my own hair so that I look styled..............I really feel that he understands" my not-so-easy-to-manage, thin, curly hair and works with it; he's not just giving me a haircut. not consistent The fist time the cut was excellent and i did write an excellent review. I came back with a photo of exactly how it had been cut so the length, etc would be the same. It was significantly shorter and had a different look. It is a good cut but it is not MY cut. I dont think i was listened to.
Mediocrity Doesn't Justify High Prices I would go to this "salon" again if their prices were cut by at least $30 . . . the prices are normal for a good salon with high talent, service, and a nice atmosphere, but Zen 2002 made me blowdry my own hair, the physical appearance is so-so, and the person (owner) who was scheduled to do my hair had his assistant do all of it (including asking me to blowdry my own hair).
