About

YamaSho is a popular local Japanese restaurant in Tenderloin, that is as famous for its excellent sushi as it is for their karaoke. The decor is a blend of traditional and modern Japanese elements, and invokes a casual ambiance, perfect for friendly night outs and family dinners. The food menu is mostly dominated by meat and seafood dishes, which are served in tapas style, either hot or cold. They have multiple karaoke rooms and an extensive song list, which means you can sing the night away while enjoying the food and drinks.

New Japanese Karaoke with Awesome Service and Sound System – The review is for the karaoke only. The recipe for a successful Japanese karaoke lounge - good sound system, extensive song selection, cozy private rooms, friendly and attentive service. YamaSho has everything to offer. My only complaint is the lack of privacy. The karaoke room had this huge glass window without no curtains or blinds. Granted there were not a lot of traffic outside the room, it still made me feel a little strange because of the bright light coming from the corridor. I like singing in a dimmer room with a better atmosphere. This place is relatively expensive but the quality kind of justify the high price tag. Check in was a bit slow. We waited about 15 minutes and there were only one group before us. The hostess really know how to treat their customers though. Everyone was friendly and chatty. Really made me feel like a valued customer there. The restaurant on the ground floor looked neat. I am pretty sure I will come here again to try their sushi and maybe sing for an hour or two.

Citysearch Editorial Review – With its preponderance of orchids, dim lighting, and dark woods, Yamasho is so reminiscent of a Zen teahouse that it’s hard to believe there are nine state of the art karaoke rooms lurking beneath it. This juxtaposition extends to the menu where the dishes range from simple nigiri (try the sea bass) to the almost alarmingly flavorful inside out rolls. With over 30 sakes to choose from as well as Sapporo on draft and a bevy of shochu cocktails, the focus here is just as much on drinking as it is on eating, if not more so. The karaoke facilities are legit, with over 60,000 songs to choose from, top of the line equipment on which to belt them out and a courtesy telephone for singers too busy with Blondie to go upstairs to order drinks, which are served till 2am.
