Me and my husband visited this academy from VA. We felt very welcomed by both students and Professor Yamasaki. The instruction was top notch. Professor spent one-on-one time with us while drilling the technique. I had a shoulder injury. He was caring and made sure that students were aware of it while rolling with me. I highly recommend this place whether you are visiting or looking for an academy to join.
Everything is fine and dandy till you want to cancel your membership then they will throw all kinds of costs and procedure to make it as difficult as possible. It does not matter we have been a member for 7 years. They are trying to get the last few dollars out of you. Their website says you can cancel at any time but what they actually mean is that you can cancel but you are still liable for the full year of membership, unlike any other gym we have ever been a member of, very deceptive business practice.
The best of the best for authentic from a true pure of source of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Mario and Fernando Yamasaki are the forerunners of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the DC area. Mario arrived 27 years ago, bringing with him the unfiltered, not for sale, but you have to earn it, through 1000's of hours of blood, sweat and tears to become a black belt instruction. The instructors are great with kids. Our experience is still great. My son now knows the basics on how to defend himself from a bully if that ever happens. A sense of security.
