The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (WEIO) presents an annual 4-day event in Fairbanks, AK, beginning every 3rd Wednesday in July through Saturday. Our annual event began in 1961 and continues today to consist of tradition Northern Native athletic games, singing & dancing, arts & crafts and providing a Miss WEIO. Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the world in South Africa, but I first discovered this event when looking to write a children's book with a difference. Johnny Issaluk a past participant helped me craft my book, Polly's Inuit Piralympics which I based on many of the events at the WEIO. I follow the Games now and am looking forward to watching this years via the internet if i can, but to at least follow the FB page
RecommendedI participated at last years WEIO and it was an awesome experience! I met a lot of people and made new friends and have recommended to my friends to go, I learned a great lesson about how to help the others around you and to be a good sport, even if you miss.

My first time attending, i was able to participate in being one of 52 blanket throwers for men toss!!! Enjoying engaging in my mom's heritage with my 16 yr old!!
