After 45 years of practicing as a general surgeon, medicine has advanced. With the advances in medicine, many surgical procedures are now done with less invasion which benefit the patient and their recovery. Not every patient eligible for surgery needs surgery. My approach is more conservative and if the outcome outweighs the risk then surgery can be considered.

Dr. Montano is very direct and very well studies. He said I didn't need surgery, even though he is a surgeon. He said my situation is elective and described any risk to look for an emergency situation
My son was in an auto accident and medivaced to Fairbanks. Dr. Montano had much concern for his state upon arrival at the hospital. Dr. Montano did not recommend surgery, which was the right call, because my son had a duodenal hematoma. Dr. Montano, although he is a surgeon, is NOT knife happy and looks at the full scheme of each patient for great care. We would recommend anyone to see him, he is straightforward and amazing.
My husband was admitted to the ER with Pulse of 190. The Dr. Tested many things and got few answers. High white blood cell counts led to exploratory laparascopy. He was finallly diagnosed with peritonitis of unknown origin. This doctor closed the surgery & then on release, my husbands records state that his LEG IS BETTER HE CAN GO HOME NOW. He is loosing it. He never washed his hands & if not for the other surgeon holding the reins on him my husband would be missing a healthy gall bladder.
In 1998 I suffered from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound affecting my lungs stomach and spleen. I was flown in from Healy to Fairbanks. Dr Montano did the surgery. Recovery time was extensive, but I was lucky to be alive. I was told I could never do construction work again with the substantial injuries I incurred. However, due to the excellent surgical work done by Dr. Montano, I was able to participate in technical rock climbing, backpacking in the Rockies, as well as construction.
My husband had acute abdominal pain that sent him into the ER only to be treated and released. We returned a few days later and Dr Montano knew immediately the cause of his pain and performed emergency surgery right away. He was immediately relieved of all his symptoms and is now recovering well. Dr Montano was very efficient and was extremely thorough. We are both very happy that it was Dr Montano that performed the surgery, and we will be recommending him to anyone needing a good surgeon.
Terrible! Was told several times I had a neurotransmitter and could NOT have heat closure. He did anyway, went through the wire on neurotransmitter causing me to have another surgery to repair the wire which was constantly shocking me! Complained to hospital but he is not a hospital employee. Stay away from this guy!
Business response:
I am a general surgeon in Fairbanks, not a neurosurgeon in Anchorage. I believe you have the wrong physician.
The best surgeon in town!
