Westbank Florist has a long history on the westbank of New Orleans. Our roots began as Johannsson’s Florist and became Westbank Florist in the late 70s when Gertrude Powell bought the flower shop. After over two decades of ownership Cecilia Ann Jenkins purchased the business. Finally, in April of 1999 Susan Russell Martinez bought Westbank Florist and turned it into the gem we know and love today. She has cultivated Westbank Florist into a staple for many. There was a little glitch with ordering online, the system didn’t want to complete my order but I waited a day and it was fine. The flowers were very beautiful but the little angle statue was much smaller than their website image portrayed.
We frantically came into this shop the day before my grandmother’s funeral after the online floral arrangement we had placed with a different florist fell through. At this point, we would have settled with literally any flowers so that my grandmother’s service could be beautiful. The staff members of Westbank Florist took the time to listen to our wishes, gave us suggestions and recommendations on how to keep the original vision while working with the stock they had on hand, and were incredibly respectful the entire time.
