After three months, I have still not received my $771.34 refund for an order. West Elm’s failure to complete a simple refund is staggering and unacceptable. I bought a dining table set for my new apartment and the whole process felt straightforward. The showroom staff explained material differences clearly without using too many technical words. I liked that they were honest about which items were in stock and which needed waiting time. My order took around a week to arrive. The finish on the table was nice but one chair leg was slightly uneven, causing a small wobble. I called them and they sent a technician within two days to fix it properly.

I’m not someone who usually takes issue with not being greeted, but this experience felt different. Throughout my time in the store, I felt overlooked and undervalued as a customer. Staff appeared selective in who they approached, and I cannot ignore the role that race may have played. As a minority, this is not an unfamiliar experience, particularly in spaces that position themselves as high-end, although West Elm would hardly fall into that category. The sister company of Pottery Barn, lesser quality with mid century and modern design. Helpful staff, but i arrived with a list of what I wanted to see. Street parking only, $7.50 for the first hour! So go with a purpose.
