Avoid I purchased a brand new 9.8 horsepower Nissan outboard motor. I opened the box and attempted to run the motor in a water tank. It would not start. I went to the Nissan web site and found Voyager Marine (Alviso, CA near San Jose) as the closest service shop. Circumstances – The experience that Andrew had with his new outboard motor was unfortunate. When he brought it to Voyager Marine for service, Nissan was contacted immediatly and the "pre-inspection service" was required by them before any warranty work would be authorized as the motor was purchased via the internet. Upon inspection the carburetor was found to contain contaminated fuel which looked like it had oil in it. The fuel system was cleaned and the motor test run. Avoid – Extremely poor customer service. Blames the customer when they can't diagnose the problem. Accused me of using old gas. When I offered to show a receipt showing I bought just enough gas to fill the gas can, the owner actually replied that I must have bought the gas afterwards to cover my mistake. Totally not true. Also kept asking for payment for services after receiving payment from the manufacturer under warranty. Also tried to bill me for "pre-inspection service" so they could be paid twice.
