My grandmother was a hospice patient. My mother requested a priest, they never sent one. My grandmother couldn't eat towards the end. They waited too long to give her something other than Tylenol for her pain. I found out later there was a powder I should have been given so grandma can eat. Her lungs filled with liquids. I am still getting letters from a debt collector representing Miami Dade for an ambulance service they requested. I have called multiple times and it was not resolved.
VITAS provided exceptional and compassionate care to my beloved mother, Rosa L. Ortiz, during her five-year journey at home and through her final days. I am deeply grateful to Nurse Lorena, Olkine, Silvana, Paola, Omayra, Evelia, Dr. Dowe, Robinson, Miguel, Xavier, and Chaplains Jorge and Sam for their kindness, professionalism, and heartfelt support. My mother is a hospice patient at an assisted living facility in Orlando, FL. Nurse Tayne Huergo was my mother's hospice nurse for at least one month when she was abruptly transferred to another facility. Vitas would get 5 stars if Nurse Tayne had not been transferred. If you are lucky enough to have Nurse Tayne care for your loved one, I envy you. I am so disappointed she was transferred.
