I'm sharing my experience as a cautionary tale for pet owners, especially regarding serious diagnoses. In November, my cat began exhibiting a severe cough, leading me to visit the Veterinary Emergency Group in Lincoln Park. The emergency vet, based solely on x-rays, misdiagnosed my cat with late-stage cancer, advising euthanasia despite his good quality of life. This diagnosis was given without conducting any additional tests.Thankfully, my regular vet at ****************** offered a different perspective. After thorough exa... read more

My experience at VEG was horrible and it cost my dog her life. The veterinarians are responsible for service and administration duties, thus in an emergency the focus is on getting the billing taken care of first. This is not a bad thing unless the vet is not answering your questions about the treatment because they are focusing on getting you estimates and securing payment before they do or tell you anything. The vet working on my dog never told me the diagnosis. She just repeated that my dog was really sick, there was a 50... read more

Veterinary Emergency Group tried to charge me $7000 for a procedure that the standard market rate is $2000-$2500. The dog needed surgery within 48 hours or he would die. I almost paid them until my friends informed me that I was getting robbed. The only words that I could use to describe this properly are highway robbery. The idea of charging 300% market rate for a life-saving procedure is disgusting to my very core.

Employees and doctors are all very new to the emergency business making it hard to trust the medicine that they are performing. As a former employee, I witnessed doctors asking techs for advice on how to treat cases because they had never been exposed, doctors that admitted to never doing very common emergency surgeries. The doctors are expected to treat exotic animals, even if they have never done it before, which is extremely dangerous for not only the staff untrained in these animals, but for the pets themselves. They ten... read more

I was there for hours before they checked my cats vitals. They charged $1000 for diagnostics & made NO diagnosis. They gave him some fluids which helped him feel better but zero answers. Wanted me to come in the next day for more diagnostics. Nope. Im grateful for the after hours fluids but they were Uber expensive with no help long term
