While the East Village has long been a hip neighborhood, it was first known as an ethnic community. The Ukrainian restaurant Veselka is a remnant of that history. This combination luncheonette and sidewalk cafe with an Eastern European air features breakfast muffins, bagels, potato pancakes and cheese blintzes among other selections. For lunch, a hearty borscht and their famouspierogies should do the trick, while a dinnermeal ofkielbasa or veal goulash should leave you smiling and satisfied.

What an amazing dining experience. They have great service and the people that work here make sure that the customers are comfortable. I love their appetizers.
Eastern European food needs to be in my belly – Seriously. This place is really good. And I mean really good at any time of the day, not just at 3AM. The deluxe meat plate is the way to go if you're not a vegetarian and sharing or if you're just really really hungry.

Great first experience! – First time I've ever eaten Pierogis, they were delicious! The beet soup was very tasty too, yum! To top it all off, the server was very knowledgeable about the menu an very attentive.

Worth the Brunch-Time Wait (And Open 24-Hrs!) – Veselka is my go-to for brunch in the Lower East Side. The prices are great, the portions are perfect for the day after a night out. They're usually pretty swamped on weekend days but there are some cute shops nearby that you can wander through while you're waiting and the food is well worth it. Poland Meets NYC Diner – You know when the plus-60 senior citizen crowd visits a place, it has to be good (or atleast, cheap). Veselka is that East Village staple that has managed to brand itself so well you keep going back for more. Good breakfast deal – Needed a quick breakfast/brunch before I hopped back on my plane to LA. Veselka was a great choice. I had the breakfast sandwich, which unknowingly came with a cup or orange juice and coffee...what a great deal! The sandwich was good, like a sausage mcmuffin with egg, but better. I'd definitely stop in here when I need a quick breakfast before starting my day.
East Village Landmark, Best Pancake – Love their pancakes, kielbasa and Ukrainian dumplings.During brunch time, they have great specials but make sure you get there early to avoid the crowd. Pancake is a must-have as well as their sausages.
