Editorial fromOriginally opened as a billiard parlor in the late nineteenth century, this East Village spot is put to much better use as a cafe and bakery. The desserts range from several varieties of cheesecake (try the chocolate chip), tiramisu and…

go to ferrara's instead – I will never go to Veniero's ever again. My last time there was enough to stop me from ever wanting to step foot in that place again. I had only ever been there very infrequently before, but now if I want good Italian desserts, I'm always going to go to Ferrara's. Our waitress was outrageously rude to us. We were seated fairly quickly, but then she was tremendously rude while we were ordering. She even made sarcastic comments that at one point when my sister was ordering, caused her to just stop and... read more
Ridiculously Incompetent – This review reflects my own personal opinion and is not to be associated with any place of business. However, I think its necessary to warn others that ordering a cake from this "renowned" pastry shop is like asking for rain in the Death Valley. It isn't going to happen. You call to ask why your cake has still not arrived and the reply you get is that it is on the truck. Fifteen minutes later, you have a party and no cake. What you do have are plastic forks and paper plates and a room full of hungr... read more
Best cannolis north of Little Italy! – After a wild night at Lucky Cheng's, my friends and I wanted a change of pace and dessert so I took them to this renowned Italian bakery and cafe. This place has the best Italian desserts and expresso outside of Little Italy. The cannolis, rum-balls, chocolate covered rainbow cakes, biscotti, all your favorite Italian desserts can be found here. You can sit down and eat here and take home some desserts from the bakery counter up front. A great place to end a night on a sweet note!
Makes me happy!!! – As soon as you walk in you can't help but to get happy- the display cases look so appetizing!!! everything is delicious and if you can't decide then try a few of the little ones! their cakes are amazing, they have the best ricotta filling!!!
If you're on a diet... – Do not come here. This place is pure temptation. I've heard so much about this place that decided to go in. Even to just to get desserts to go, you'll have to wait in line quite sometime. But I think every minute was worth the wait. They have miniature everything which is a great way of trying new Italian desserts. I bought around 6 different ones to "take home" of course they didn't survive that far. I will go back to dine.
Best Iced Cappuccinos – I love their iced cappuccinos (especially decaf iced cappuccino for after dinner or late night) and their pignoli cookies....I was not too happy with service...wiatresses were a bit unfriendly and cashier/manager was frosty...Also very noisy when it is crowded..they seemed unhappy and stressed out...better during the daytime...
AMAZING food, but a little intimidating. – The pastries here are fantastic -- and cheap -- but there are so many of them and I really wasn't sure what everything was. Some of the rum-soaked stuff tastes really strange to an American palate. Nevertheless, the custard tarts were amazing...
absolutely amazing desserts – i will come back here time and time again - with every trip to NYC i will stop in and get a cannoli and a pound of italian cookies - reminds me of grandma!
The Great NYC Cheescake Quest - Prologue – Quickly - this is a very average restaurant, nothing to write home about except for the cheesecake that, to this out-of-towner - seemed the ultimate. BUT...I am heading to the Big Apple in mid April 06 with my family and intend to a very scientific blind taste test on Venerio's versus Johnny's, D'auito's, Ferrara bakery and Eileen's. I will consider other candidates fellow Citysearchers nominate ;-) Watch for results!
