Really cool place with amazing ambiance and so much potential. The food was good, but unfortunately, the service was a major disappointment. We visited to celebrate a birthday and were excited to try this spot. Unfortunately, the experience fell short from the moment we arrived. Vela in River North is a gem. This isn't a part of the city I get to often, but I'm so glad we found it for our anniversary dinner. The space stood out immediately. It's eclectic but high end, somehow blending party energy, like disco balls, with elevated art pieces, like an oversized vase with a single twig hanging out of it. Despite a pretty open floor plan, the textures, lighting, and curtains make it feel warm and welcoming, still humble and never stuffy. The food across the board was excellent.
