HORRIBLE!! My cat has been ill for months. I asked Dr Whalen the same question several times, do you think he has cancer? My friends dog had similar symptoms when he had cancer (weight loss, low grade fever, infections and itching) She kept saying NO and kept saying he had a food allergy and sold me almost $1000 in hypoallergenic food. He never got better and I took him to a new place where they found a lump on him I missed (and so did two vets at woodstock) and they did a biopsy and he has cancer!! It had spread but they we... read more

Woodstock Overcharges This is a clinic IMO whose vets have been trained to do figure out ways to escalate the bill. After the second time this happened to me I got wise, and will not go back. I'd moved from an area where I'd had a great vet where these things never would have been done. For example, my dog has had a history of eye infections--my old vet always gave me the eye ointment which cleared it right up. They insisted on taking my dog in the back and doing some special procedure to look at the corneas of her eyes. Bog... read more

Best Doc in the Area I got a new rescue puppy 2 years ago and we took her in to Woodstock because it was close by. They have always extremely professional and conscientious. Dr. Horlings, the head vet, is one of the most caring and competent medical professionals I have ever met. I wish my medical doctors were so empathetic. She is very aware of pain control and takes time to explain what is happening and what is necessary. Even making evening phone calls to give us updates. The staff were very willing to work with me on pay... read more

caring staff, but too much! I have no doubt that the vets and nurses here care deeply about our pets, and are genuinely great folks. That being said- they cost too much, suggest procedures I feel are unnecessary, and have even tacked things on the service bill without our knowledge or consent. Maybe the right place for the paranoid and rich pet owner, but too much for average dog and cat mamas.

Be Warned - Awful Vet and Poor Exam I used to take my dog to Rose City Vet (who are great!), but was looking for a vet closer to my house. My dog was limping and I took her in last week. They took us into an exam room and told us we needed to wait because an emergency had come in. Then, the vet came in for her very brief "exam". We explained that she had been limping, and we weren't sure what caused it. She told us our dog needed knee surgery for luxating patellas and we discussed her options. We felt rushed, but we understo... read more

Very caring local vet. We bring our cat to the Woodstock Veterinary Hospital for his yearly checkup and shots. They are very patient with him (he is old and cantankerous and another vet in town didn't have the patience to deal with him). They are gentle and want to make sure your pet is receiving the best attention available. They often have coupons in the Woodstock Bee for discounted visits and they send mailers to their clients. I feel confident bringing my pet here because I know he will be treated with the utmost persona... read more

Real pet lovers When one of our cats was in the final stages of life we took her there to be put to sleep. She ended up dying enroute, but the workers here were very sweet and tender and ended up doing the cremation work. They had an excellent, caring manner, even though I hadn't spent any money there before.
