I signed a contract with VASA last year. I paid a small fee and paid for the entire year at once. They said the fee was to guarantee the price for the next year. They just notified me my membership was up and I tried to get the same deal and on the computer they had it check marked that the negotiating deal is not renewable. So in other words they lied to me. They just lost a customer because they would not honor the deal again.
I moved out of Utah last week, and I didn't have time to go and cancel my membership. After s week of trying to get a hold of their cancel service (cause it's separate from their main membership service) I finally got ahold of them after waiting for 40 minutes. For the third time. Hopefully that was the last of it but I've been reading stories of how they'll just keep charging you so hopefully it was resolved. Most likely not. They charged me an additional $20 for childcare that I was not allowed to use because I am not the guardian. When I signed up they told me I could use it regardless. Only head office can reverse the situation, they have not returned my call.
The Van Winkle vasa is pretty decent. They lack some carabiniers for the cable machines and also lack lighter weights for the barbells. Cardio machines tend to go down a lot (which is fine due to the usage) but the company tends to take weeks to fix any problems.
HORRIBLE customer service. It is a joke to get ahold of anyone at the "corporate office" and if there is ANY problem with an account don't expect them to let you know about it or contact you about it. You are ON YOUR OWN and they can care less about it. Poor business ethics AND customer service. Wish they never bought out golds gym
It's not a bad place, most of the places are cleaner than that Sugarhouse 24 but the quality of Van Winkle that I go to regularly has taken a noticeable change for the worse. The free weight room is down to two safety clips to about 10 free bars (that clips should be used on). The cables are missing carabiner clips. I'm starting not a coffee table book of all of the different machines that are out of commission for weeks at a time because there are enough. Terrible customer service. Last month my card got declined for no reason and they charged me a 50 dollar late fee. When I called them they re ran my card and it went through. I still paid it on the due date and they won't even consider refunding me. This month same thing happened again for no reason. If they don't refund me both late fees I am going to cancel my membership!!! I talked with Mike there and he seemed great. He was going to have customer service call me to get this fixed and still haven't heard back from them!
