This used to be one of our favorite local brewpubs, because the beer is great, the back patio with picnic tables is lovely, and the food (although limited) is pretty solid. Then we tried coming with our new baby. We understand that the bar area would restrict kids, but the huge back patio, far from the dispensation of alcohol, is absolutely forbidden to host kids. I love vanguard! I come here all the time to do homework and it's one of my favorite places to get stuff done. I love the son of a peach cider, but when that is not available, I have liked all the other ciders I've tried! Their food is great too! The nachos are always a hit and so is the cheesy bread. The patio area is great, and it's nice to see that they're making a variety of changes to the patio area in particular, like adding umbrellas and comfy pads to the seating. Friendly place with a solid beer lineup especially for IPAs, solid food all reasonably priced.
Legitimately I was never intending to leave another review on this account. And to be fair, the place is honestly a 4 out of 5 stars for chill outdoor patio vibes and good beer. However. To the person running the kitchen: please replace your frying oil. It is old, burnt, and oxidized. Your tots came out tasting like motor oil. The area by the kitchen smelled like it was one errant cigarette away from a gas station fire. Please. Replace your frying oil. It's not safe anymore.
