normally you go through US immigration and customs here at YVR, except for flights leaving after 8pm, then you do it when you land. (E gates are US-bound only with pre-clearance: D gates are int'l)
Security and customs are the slow and inefficient. We missed a flight due to the overly bureaucratic customs procedures. Vancouver has a world class facility that suffers from bureaucracy

YVR is truly a world class facility. One of my favourites. Domestic departure section has some great sandwich shops. International departures has ample places to sit and charge devices. Streamlined!
