Absolutely disgraceful benefits company. Unum has taken over five weeks to “process” my Family Leave claim, submitted on 11/30, and as of 12/30 there has been zero progress, zero updates, and zero accountability. They repeatedly send automated text messages claiming I need to “update information” on my account. When I log in, there is literally nothing to update. No alerts. No requests. Nothing. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Unum is my insurance for short term and critical illness. I got dx 9/29/25. I filed my claim on 11/4/25. today is 12/3/25 my oncologist sent in a 22 page packet covering all information they could possibly need. they are still pending their decision meanwhile I have 13$ left and can't even afford my prescriptions. how is it I work as a RN for 32 years and now in my time of need, I can't even get a person on the phone. very sad that insurance dictates care and funds. Denied me to even be able to qualify for coverage and would not provide detailed information for reasoning. I have NO per-exsisting conditions.
Never ever a worse experience. One of the worst part about being disabled isn't the shame, or the bills, it's dealing with theses "people". More like robots. It was bad enough they scammed me out of money, they stole hours of my life dealing with their incompetent customer service. Prime example of how not to treat hurt or sick people.
