We had a deeply troubling experience with this therapist. In the course of therapy, he dismissed and minimized my child's disclosures of abuse, and instead appeared to side with the abusive parent. This harmful clinical judgment left us feeling unsafe and invalidated. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend him for children or families, particularly those dealing with sensitive issues such as abuse.
Austin was my doctor for a few years several years ago, I saw him at both his Montclair and San Francisco offices. Had I not been in a state of such deteriorated mental health I hope that it wouldn't have taken me so long to stop seeing him. If you are in need of a talk therapist I believe that he is capable, if however you are in any way vulnerable Dr. Heafey is too dangerous. Please continue looking, good luck.
Like many, I have struggled to make therapy “work” for me. Yes, therapy is always work. Best therapist i’ve known. Helped me through my couple years of college and dealing with PTSD, relationships and anxiety. I am so grateful to know him and to have had him there for my care. He feels so safe and creates such a safe space for you to explore and express your emotions.
Dr. Heafey has been working with my son for the past year. He has taken the time to really get to know my son and his difficulties. This insight has helped Dr. H treat our son and refer us to the best outside providers.
