In the early 1930's the Kalb family opened Kalb's All American Restaurant, which featured "air conditioned comfort" with lunches from 50 cents and dinners 75 cents. Descendants from the family still live in the Essex area today. In 1948 Mr. Ed Hockaday purchased Kalb's changing the name to: Uncle Eddie's Restaurant. Several of Mr. Ed's original dishes are still served here today!!
