In the early 1930's the Kalb family opened Kalb's All American Restaurant, which featured "air conditioned comfort" with lunches from 50 cents and dinners 75 cents. Descendants from the family still live in the Essex area today. In 1948 Mr. Ed Hockaday purchased Kalb's changing the name to: Uncle Eddie's Restaurant. Slow service. Asked if wanted coffee 15 min later no coffee and seemed that Marge was the only one to help us while others stand behind bar.

Close to home This restaurant is close to home for me. The service comes with a smile. The building doesn't look like much from the outside. And they would do a lot better with some exterior work to draw in some more customers. I'm sure if the outside looked better people would realize what a hidden treasure this is.
