I went for a five minute appointment with an oncologist. No procedure was done, just talking. I paid the $40 specialist copay with my Blue Cross PPO insurance, and expected that was it. Months later I got a bill for $400 and a bill for $251, supposedly a physician and hospital facility fee. It was shocking to receive a bill for hundreds of dollars that I had no control over and had never agreed to. I spent hours on the phone to UNC Billing and my insurance. I have been thoroughly unimpressed with this hospital. After a trip or two of traveling 2 1/2 hours just to be told a patient can't get chemo that day, staff calling for the patient to come in earlier when the patient is already on the way there (driving from 2 1/2 hrs away) or having appointments scheduled that sometimes aren't necessary and can be done locally, this is highly unacceptable for a hospital of this magnitude. This hospital has really nice staff to help aid the patients. The children's cancer ward of the hospital is very friendly for children with lots of toys to play. Worked here as an Accounting Technician II from August 28, 2006 thru November 13, 2006. The place was very disorganized and was never able to learn to properly reconcile to the Notification of Termination reply (NOTR). Needless to say I was let go after 2 months for not staying on task. In any case I am much happier now in my life working for a small grassroots startup company scanning. Don't recommend UNC Lineberger as a place to work. Glad I found something much better.
