About this business

Sam Logan, member/manager of Tucson Awning & Screen LLC, started the company in 1971 with little more than a pickup truck, a few tools, and a lot of determination to succeed. Your carport is not just for cars. Use your carport to shelter your boat, trailer, ATV, motorcycle, bicycles, snowmobiles, snow blowers, and other items that require shelter from the elements. You can also use the carport as a place under which children can play out of the sun.

Does it ever seem like you get wetter in the rain when you’re trying to get into your car while carrying an umbrella than if you didn’t have one? Building a carport on your property could give you the cover you need to avoid this frustrating scenario.

Carports were used as early as 1909 by the Prairie School architect Walter Burley Griffin. His design of the Sloan House in Elmhurst, Illinois, was the first to use such a structure.

If you like to work on your car, a carport is, in many ways, safer than a garage. While both protect against the elements, because of the carport’s open air construction, you do not have to worry about a buildup of malodorous or toxic fumes.

Statistically, carports provide the same degree of protection against auto theft as do garages. This is attributed to the fact that the covered spaced gives the appearance that greater security measures are in place, and it is easier to spot unauthorized personnel.

Metal carports provide an excellent way to protect your vehicle from hail or storm damage, as these structures are extremely durable. While most models are open on all sides, some designs may have partial sides, providing even greater protection.

Not sure whether to go with a steel or aluminum carport? Much of this will depend on the level of portability you need. Steel is heavier making it good for a long-term solution, whereas the lightness of aluminum makes it a great option for those looking for a mobile option.

Carports are not just for cars. You can use them as a home to boats, trailers, snowmobiles, ATV’s, motorcycles, and many other methods of transportation. This is especially helpful if you don’t have a space on the street to park any vehicles and your garage is too small.

While the temptation to build your own carport can be strong for many DIY homeowners, this isn’t recommended. Leaving this task to the professionals is the best way to protect anything you put under your new carport.
