I wear a cochlear implant. I tried three different brands of captioning/transcription glasses. All had great promise but significant flaws. Then I tried the newest model from Transcribe Glass. I can honestly say that these have changed my life. As a late-adult Deaf person, I rely on tech like this and my hearing aids to be able to communicate in any way at all. For the last several years I've been using a different captioning app that displays the text on my phone screen, so it's a profound game changer to be able to look people in the eyes again while chatting. I got cancer a couple of years ago, and had seven weeks of radiation therapy aimed at the right side of my neck. My doctors warned me that this might negatively impact the hearing in my right ear. And so it did. I have really good hearing aids, but they can only do so much. And as everyone who has them knows, they’re pretty useless in noisy crowded spaces, like restaurants.
